The car Fernando Alonso will drive when he returns to Formula One in 2021 has been revealed by Alpine.

Daniil Kvyat, a former Red Bull and AlphaTauri driver, has joined as a reserve driver, which means he will take over if Alonso or Ocon are unable to compete in any races this season.

Alpine’s new car, the A521, has a predominantly blue color scheme, with white and red stripes making up the rest of the French flag.

Alpine will continue to be Renault’s factory outfit, working out of the team’s Enstone headquarters in the United Kingdom.

Last year, the French manufacturer placed fourth in the championship, with drivers Esteban Ocon and Daniel Ricciardo claiming podium finishes.

On Wednesday, the new car will make its track premiere at Silverstone, with Ocon at the wheel.

It will compete in preseason testing from March 12 to 14 at the Bahrain International Circuit, ahead of the season opening on March 28 at the same site for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Alonso returns to F1 after a period of attempting to win other races. With Toyota, he won the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours as well as the World Endurance Championship series in which it is held.

Alonso is still on his way to becoming only the second driver to win the Triple Crown. He still needs to win the Indy 500 to add to his victories at Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix. The only driver to win all three events is Graham Hill.

Alonso will not be permitted to compete in the Indy 500 while he is under contract with Alpine, according to Renault. While contracted to race in Formula One for McLaren, the Spaniard made his debut at the event in 2017.
