Carlos Sainz is “sure” that Ferrari has moved closer to Red Bull in regards of straight-line speed by making the appropriate improvements.

Red Bull’s RB18 gained a reputation in 2022 for being quick on the straights, an aspect that the Scuderia was unable to match at several tracks.

Sainz expressed his view that the squad has taken progress in tackling this problem after pre-season testing in Bahrain before the 2023 Formula One season, although he stated that their performance relative to their competitors would not become visible until the season officially started.

Sainz told the media, including RacingNews365.com, “I don’t know [whether we are matching Red Bull] since I don’t know the engine mode they’re running and the exact rear wing compared to us.

“But we’re confident we’ve done steps in the right direction in that sense. It’s part of the evolution of our car to also try and be less draggy and try to get close to Red Bull on the staights.

“So I hope that we can be closer. Are we going to be quicker or not, or the same, or able to battle them on the staights? We don’t know.”

Sainz is happy with Ferrari’s test results

Sainz is pretty satisfied with what Ferrari accomplished during the three days of testing in Bahrain.

The Spaniard said, “So far, so good.”

“I think we’ve had a good test in terms of reliability [and] managing to do all the tests that we wanted to do coming into this week here.

“Having a good test doesn’t mean having a good car, but the most important [thing] is that we’re having a good test, and this is giving us a good learning in all the aspects.”
