Sergio Perez says capturing the Monaco Grand Prix was indeed a “dream come true” for him after claiming his 3rd Formula One triumph.

During the pit stops of a dramatic day in which the race was twice delayed by red lights, the Mexican succeeded in going ahead of the Ferrari couple of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.

Despite Sainz got quite near to the back of his Red Bull in the last moments of the race, Perez maintained his advantage and was ecstatic with the victory.

“It’s a dream comes true,” Perez told Sky Sports F1 after the race.

“As a driver, you dream of winning here. After your home race, there is no other weekend more special to win.”

It was not an easy road to triumph

However, Perez concedes that his journey to the chequered flag was not without its bumps.

“The way we did it, we just made it a bit harder for ourselves there at the end,” he stated.

“But, with the [tyre] graining I had, to not make any mistake, to bring it home… Keeping Carlos behind wasn’t easy.”

The Red Bull racer went on to say that it had been a “huge day” for both him and Mexico.

“I’m very, very happy,” Perez summarised his afternoon in Monte Carlo.
