Christian Horner: The next Ferrari team boss will be under “great pressure”

After working as Team Principal for Ferrari for 4 years, Mattia Binotto is planned to leave at the end of the year, but the squad has not yet announced his replacement.

After Mattia Binotto’s departure, Christian Horner predicts “heavy pressure” will be imposed on the new Ferrari Formula 1 team manager.

At the current FIA Prize Giving ceremony, the Red Bull Team Principal praised Binotto for his work in previous years in bringing Ferrari’s opportunities and paid respect to him.

Horner told the media, including RacingNews365.com, “In all fairness to him he did a very good job at producing a very competitive car and engine for Ferrari this year, but obviously they had their moments operationally.”

“But he [Binotto] committed a long period of his career and life to Ferrari, and I’m sure it must be very difficult for him to leave that team after all that time.”

Horner: It will be the sixth Team Principal I’ve sat against

The longest-serving Team Principal in Formula One is Horner, who entered the motorsport in 2005. During that time, Ferrari has had six Team Principals, but just one Drivers’ Championship and two Constructors’ Championships, both in 2007.

According to Horner, who was apparently approached about the position but turned it down, whoever accepts the position will be under intense pressure to perform.

“There is a huge pressure on that team as it’s effectively a national team as well as an OEM team,” he continued.

“It will now be the sixth Team Principal that I have sat across the table from since I’ve been at Red Bull, so a lot of pressure on that job.”

The news that Fred Vasseur would take over as Team Principal and General Manager beginning on January 9th was released by Ferrari on Tuesday morning.

Following his departure from Alfa Romeo, Andreas Seidl from McLaren is expected to take over that position.
