Andreas Seidl was appointed CEO of Sauber

Andreas Seidl recently announced his departure from McLaren to take the position of CEO at Sauber in the recent in a series of F1-related job announcements.

From the 2023 season on, Andrea Stella will take over for Andreas Seidl as Team Principal, according to a McLaren announcement.

Seidl’s retirement and Andrea Stella’s appointment to Team Principal were both confirmed by the Woking team.

Stella joined McLaren in 2015 and lately served as the organization’s Executive Director of Racing before Andreas Seidl left for Sauber.

“I feel privileged to take on the Team Principal role as the next stage of being part of the McLaren F1 Team. I am grateful to Zak and the Shareholders for their trust in me and to all my colleagues and those who have supported me throughout my F1 career,” Stella said.

“We are realistic about the amount of work ahead of us to move back up the grid, but I am excited and encouraged that I am in this journey together with a team full of talent, experience, racing spirit and dedication.

“I look forward to working closely with each of them, Lando and Oscar, to together achieving great success and enjoying the journey.”

The Italian-born Stella was employed by McLaren in 2015 as the company’s head of race operations. Stella then held positions as performance director beginning in 2018 and executive director of motorsport beginning in December 2019.

The Italian race engineer began his Formula One career with Ferrari in 2000 and spent 14 years at the Scuderia working with drivers including Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, and Fernando Alonso.
