Franz Tost, the AlphaTauri Team Principal, is looking forward to Nyck de Vries’ arrival and also wants to thank Pierre Gasly for his contributions over the years.
In 2023, when Nyck de Vries enters the Red Bull roster of racers at AlphaTauri, there will be two racers from the Netherlands on the Formula 1 grid.
The AlphaTauri Squad Principal Franz Tost stated that he “absolutely can not wait” for De Vries to join the squad after hearing about his good start with Williams at the Italian Grand Prix. Tost cited De Vries’ most recent successes as the reason for the excitement.
“He is fast. I know what he has accomplished,” said Tost. “I’ve seen him go karting in 2011 or 2012 and he was already very successful at that time.
“Actually in all categories where he has raced: Formula Renault, GP3, Formula 2 and also Formula E where he was world champion.”
The Italian Grand Prix influenced De Vries’ opportunities
Tost claims the race at Monza had a significant impact on their decision to choose De Vries after he scored points in the Williams on his debut, something that took regular racer Nicholas Latifi 18 races to do.
“This has been very influential as it showed his true potential,” said Tost. “He drove a fantastic race and made no mistakes. So it was an easy choice to go for him.”
Tost acknowledges that the team would miss Pierre Gasly moving ahead after he leaves the team to join Alpine after competing for them for the past three and a half years and winning a race at Monza.
“We are going to miss him very much,” he said. “Pierre has done a lot for the team and made sure that we have taken a step forward. We have had a successful period with a win in Monza and podium finishes in Brazil and Baku.”
“In addition, he has a good personality. He is very quick, professional and I can only thank him for his superior work with us. I wish him the best.”
